For nearly 50 years, Hackney Anaconda has been more than just a swimming club. We are an inclusive, enjoyable, community-focused charity trusted by parents and swimmers across East and North London.
Our mission is to promote healthy recreation and enable hundreds of Londoners to acquire vital skills, build lasting confidence, and improve their health—both in and out of the water.
This is where you come in.
We are looking for passionate, qualified, and dedicated Swimming Teachers and Swimming Coaches to join our professional team. This isn't just a job; it's a chance to be at the heart of our community and make a genuine impact on people's lives.
If you share our commitment to excellence and community, we want to hear from you.
Why Work with Hackney Anaconda?
A Club with a Community at its Heart
Working with Hackney Anaconda offers a uniquely rewarding experience. We are a club, not just a centre; a community, not just a service.
Be Part of a Respected London Legacy

We have been teaching Londoners to swim for nearly half a century. Our reputation is built on quality, trust, and a commitment to every swimmer. When you join our team, you become part of that legacy.

A Complete Pathway for Swimmers—and for You
We support swimmers at every stage of their journey, from their first 'Baby Anaconda' lessons to our full 'Learn to Swim' programme and on to our competitive squads and Masters swimming.
For our staff, this means unparalleled opportunities for professional growth. You could start as a Teacher in our Swim School and, with development and mentoring, progress to become a specialist Development Coach or Programme Coordinator. We are invested in your career.

Make a Real, Measurable Impact
As a registered charity, our focus is on participation, health, and skill-building for all. You will do more than just teach strokes; you will build confidence, mentor young athletes, and provide a safe, inclusive, and fun environment that is the highlight of our swimmers' week.
Who We Are Looking For
We are always seeking talented individuals to fill two key roles within our club. While both require a deep passion for swimming, they serve different, vital parts of our programme.

The Swimming Teacher

As a Swimming Teacher with our swim school, you are the foundation of our club. You will be responsible for delivering our high-quality 'Learn to Swim' programme, primarily to children aged 4 and up. You will guide beginners and improvers, teaching them one of the most important life skills they will ever learn. You are patient, encouraging, and an expert at making lessons safe, effective, and fun.
This role is for you if:
-
You love working with children and beginners.
-
You are passionate about water safety and fundamental swimming skills.
-
You hold a Swim England (SEQ) Level 2 Teaching Swimming or STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming (or equivalent).
The Swimming Coach
As a Swimming Coach, you are a mentor and a performance expert. You will work with our competitive squads, developing swimmers who show talent and determination. You will be responsible for session planning, technical stroke correction, and preparing athletes for galas and regional/national competitions. You are analytical, motivational, and dedicated to helping every swimmer reach their full potential.
This role is for you if:
-
You thrive in a competitive, performance-oriented environment.
-
You have experience developing athletes and creating training plans.
-
You hold a Swim England (SEQ) Swimming Coach qualification (or equivalent).
Our Commitment to Safety and Professionalism
To maintain the highest standards of safety, welfare, and quality, Hackney Anaconda requires all applicants to meet the following non-negotiable criteria.
These requirements are a shared commitment to protecting our members and creating a professional, secure environment for all.

Professional & Safety Qualifications
-
Teaching/Coaching: Applicants for teaching roles must hold a Swim England (SEQ) Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualification or a Swimming Teachers' Association (STA) Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming. Equivalent qualifications will be considered. Applicants for coaching roles must hold Swim England coaching qualifications.
-
Rescue (Desirable): Applicants who hold a National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC) or NRASTC LIGHT qualification are highly encouraged to apply. Please include this on your CV.
Our Commitment to Safeguarding
Hackney Anaconda is fully committed to safeguarding all children and vulnerable adults in our care. All appointments are subject to our rigorous "Triple Lock" safeguarding process.
-
Enhanced DBS Check: All applicants must undergo, or have, a valid Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (including the Child Barred List check). This is a legal requirement for all roles in regulated activity with children.
-
DBS Update Service: As a condition of employment, all successful applicants must be subscribed to the DBS Update Service. This service allows for regular, portable status checks and is essential for maintaining our safeguarding standards.
-
Mandatory Safeguarding Training: As a Swim England affiliated club, we require all staff to complete and maintain the Swim England Safeguarding in Aquatics training course. This specific 3-hour course is a mandatory requirement and must be renewed every three years. Please note that generic safeguarding certificates from other providers cannot be accepted for this requirement.
Right to Work in the UK
All applicants must provide evidence of their legal right to work in the UK before any employment can commence. Hackney Anaconda has a legal obligation to conduct these checks on all employees as part of the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006.
